AdventuresShip of Horror<== ( Continued from The Schism )Each member of the group awoke in a dark room, which turned out to be storage compartments below decks of a ship. Eventually they found each other, and realized that there was only three of them. They snuck their way to the top decks, but Elhana gave them away when she couldn't contain her seasickness any longer. This created quite a stir among the crewmembers and first mate when they were thought to be 'stowaways'. The Captain, who was known as Garvyn, wanted to throw them from the boat, but the group thought quickly and told him that the first mate must have forgot about hiring them at the last port - they were all very drunk (which, turned out to be true). The first mate, Brummett, admitted to his inibreation while in Mordentshire and was scolded by the Captain for not following the chain of command and telling him who was hired. (It was later learned that it was the second mate who had done the 'hiring'). That being resolved, the Captain begun to assess their seaworthyness and assign duties to the landlubbers. Balthazar headed the crows nest, as he could run up and down the ropes with ease. Kuros drilled the sailors in combat training, and Elhana was given the duty of loading the ballistae. They sailed for many days at sea, not really knowing where they were headed. When asked, some sailors said 'Graben Island', or to deliver a shipment of cargo. One night, Elhana heard a knocking at her cabin door. She was visited by a man named Jacob, who went to the upper decks. When she investigated, there was no sign of the man, and no sailor had ever heard of Jacob.
The group had just finished defeating a large group of skeletal undead on a ghost ship named 'The Eternal Torture'. Kuros went to investigate the ghost ship, but many boards were broken and all the contents were waterlogged and decreped. They had more dealings with the ghosts, as well a crewman went overboard (after Balthazar told him he could fly if he just put his mind to it). The apparition of Madeline Stern was found wailing below decks, which caused quite a stir amonst the crewmen. The breeze picked up again and the ship began to slide across the black sea into the fog ahead. They noticed that the ship had aged considerably, and this was causing most of the crew to become very restless. There was a commotion below decks, which turned out to be some mutinous crewmen, although Balthazar easily convinced them otherwise using and old Jedi mind trick (he rolled "20" on a diplomacy check vs. the group's "1"). Later that night, Jacob returned and implicated the Captian as the reason why he cannot rest eternally.
The group came above decks to try and quell the mutiny, the captain gave a rousing speech to try and keep the men on course, as well he promised to make himself more accessible. Kuros was charged with repairing the captains door, but when he got down to his chambers and realized that the captain wasn't in, he dismissed the workers and began searching the Captain's chambers. There he found a few log books, the most recent he took back to his chambers with him. Later that night Kuros read the contents of the logbooks. The logbooks were dated the year 740, which meant that the group had returned to the correct timeperiod. The logs incriminated the captain of dumping bodies in the sea - bodies that were cargo destined for a mausoleum on Todstien (a small island near Graben Island). In the morning, Kuros shared his new found knowledge, and they questioned Captain Garvyn again, this time he came clean and admitted to the deeds. They found the location where Jacob was thought to be buried, and set a course.
The ship was repaired using an ectoplasmic wall created by Balthazar. Jacob's body was safe, and his spirit returned thanking the party for what they had done. They set sail for the next body and began searching. Madeline's body was guarded in a cave by some creatures who promptly slew anything that got near the cave. Balthazar opened a magical door to the floor of the ocean, where Kuros joined him. There he put up a wall of ecto-plasm to protect them from the crushing pressure under the sea. There they saw what guarded the cave... a family of Vodyani - sea-dwelling cousins of the Umber Hulk. While holding his breath, Balthazar begun balefully teleporting parts of the Vodyani, bit by bit until they were all dead. All Kuros could do is hold his breath inside the protective orb. The Vodyani finally defeated, they made another trip below the surface and retrieved the remains. Next they sailed to the location of where the last body was thought to be, in a cove near Graben Island. The body of the child was located on the sandy sea-bed near Graben Island and guarded by a school of undead sharks. After a few attempts, Bathazar was able to summon constructs to his aid and retrieve the last body. The next step was to take the bodies on shore and give them a proper burial. As they got on shore, they were followed by Mako and his cronies. Kuros had a debt to settle. The duel on the beach lasted a mere five seconds. Kuros lopped off the man's leg, and before the severed limb hit the beach, he speared him through the heart. That having been completed, the group set out across the island towards the village.
Uncovering their secret, there was only one thing left to do... kill the Graben family and burn their estates. Before the house burned entirely, the group discovered logs, describing shipments to Todstien Island. Payment was made out by Meredoth. Boarding the Endurance again, the group made their way to Todstien Island, which was surrounded by the strongest winter blizzard any of them had seen in their lives. Taking a small rowboat, the PCs left the ship and headed for the beach. They agreed to meet the Endurance at this same spot within two days.
Inside the lair of the wizard, they met many strange rooms, many housing undead or broken coffins. Then they came upon a slide trap to a huge open chamber. They weren't even addressed by the man at the top before he begun slinging spells onto the party. A large battle between the party and the wizard ensued. Elhana was crushed by huge black tentacles that sprung from the ground. The wizard was pursued into the back tunnels of his labratory, where Kuros and Balthazar dodged lightnig bolts, chased the wizard and slew him. ( The adventure continues in Quoerere Terra Firma ) ==>
