Feast of Goblyns - Part 3. (Radaga's Revenge)

<== ( Continued from Feast of Goblyns - The Good Doctor )

After travelling south past the plains of death, the party comes to a series of rolling hills filled with long grasses. They come to a farmhouse and ask to stay the night. Longthorne is found the next morning sleeping in the chicken coup, with blood everywhere.

Following the swath through the grasses, the group comes to a large hill which overlooks a small village. The village has a church on top of a hill, and a large spiraling column of smoke. The village is also ringed by thousands of skeletons. Approaching the village, the party is met by a partol of Goblyns.

Balthazar teleports a couple of people into the village where they hide out and observe. There they are met by Father Lucius Volkskull, who has been tending to a few people left in this village. He explains that a terrible curse befell the village, and a witch has turned most of the townsfolk into undead, or hideous Goblyns. Also, recently the great column of black smoke has been rising on top of the hill.

That evening, the silence of the village is broken by the screams of a young child. On the upper floor, Longthorne has begun feasting on a child. The party battles with Longthorne, but he flees to the rooftop. Balthazar takes pity on the creature and teleports him away.

Over the next couple of days the party investigates the hill, then they investigate the church. In the basement store-room and crypts, the party finds Longthorne lying in state. The group is about to attack when he rises up! A black-clad figure steps from the shadows and beheads Longthorne! Lucius attacks, but the group parleys and discovers that it is their long lost companion Kuros!

Above, the church has been defiled and turned into a place of undead worship. There they battle with the wraith-form of Radaga and defeat her for the last time. Out of the crown emerges a tall gaunt wizard dressed in black and the body of a dead elven warrior. He walks up to the front altar, takes the book and dissapears through a magically summoned door. The group leaves the church only to discover that the black column of smoke has congealed into a black tower of ebony stone. The large horde of undead begin to move to surround the tower.

Lucius sends the remaining townsfolk northward, under the guidance of the Dark Elf. After a long period of fruitless investigation, the party deems the situation hopeless and returns to Skald with news for Lukas.

Returning to Skald, they find the Dark Elf who relates his story: "Along the way, the group of refugees were assulted by the ice devil, many of the villagers did not survive". Lukas gives the party commissions and rewards, and tells them that Simon is under his care now. With the news of hearing all his people dying, Lucius falls into a deep state of depression. The group heads back to Dominiani's estate where the new owner, Brother Dromar does some housekeeping.
