Nikalaus Korvaus' achivements are regarded on a mythic scale. His accomplishments are great, and should not be overlooked, although much of his reign was fought for tooth and nail. He was the first man to lead a large group of people to the North after the great glacier receeded. He wrested control of the land from tribes of Goblins and Orcs, building outposts and expanding human influence northward into the territory now known as Damara. Damara was actually three words in the old tounge (DA - MA - RA) meaning "The Land of the Sun". Nikalaus made his seat of power in the Earthspur mountains, at an outpost named Iceflow. Nikalaus eventually carved a mighty fortress out of the mountain face and named it Ravensburg. After some thirty years of war, trade routes opened up to the south, and merchants from Impultur were interested in the rich minerals Nikalaus was slowly exposing. In the fall of 799, King Nikalaus ventured south to the rowdy port town of Ilmwatch to oversee the last a shipment of ore leave for the season. At that time, a priest was decsending the gangplank from one of the merchant ships, when he was accosted. Nikalaus stepped in as the priest was being beaten to within an inch of his life by faithless sailors and pirates. When he came around, the man introduced himself as Reverend Father Leo III, a devotee of Ilmater. He was sent to this region by the great church in Tethyr, with all the authority of his Lord Ilmater. The Reverend Father returned to Castle Ravensburg for the winter. On the eve of the Winter Solstice, the Reverend Father Leo III crowned and annointed Nikalaus, making him the emperor. Nikalaus's reign was marked by many conflicts, both internal and external, but he was victorous in all of his battles.
